Christendom will honor the 10th anniversary of former athletic director Thomas S. Vander Woude’s passing with the 9th annual Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, October 5. The tournament, which will be held at the Blue Ridge Shadows Golf Club in Front Royal, Virginia, raises funds for the college’s Thomas S. Vander Woude Athletic Scholarship.
Participants who attend the tournament will enjoy a day full of golf, a BBQ luncheon, and the chance to compete at the beautiful Blue Ridge Shadows Golf Club, ranked by Golfweek Magazine as the “#3 Best Course you can play in Virginia.” Players will enjoy numerous competitions during the course of the day, such as “Closest to the Pin,” “Longest Drive,” and others. Prizes include raffle prizes, Christendom sports apparel, gift cards, and more.
Each year, the tournament raises more than $10,000 for the Thomas S. Vander Woude Athletic Scholarship, a program that offers exceptional student-athletes the chance to attend Christendom College.
Former Christendom College Athletic Director Thomas Vander Woude―for whom the scholarship is named―died saving the life of his youngest son on September 8, 2008. He was dedicated to the character development and personal formation of young people, especially in the areas of both intercollegiate and intramural athletics.
Recipients of the Thomas S. Vander Woude Athletic Scholarship are given the opportunity, as Thomas Vander Woude believed, to be formed mentally, spiritually, and physically. The scholarship is awarded to two incoming freshmen each year, as funds permit.
