Pete Day led the way for Crusader soccer, with his heroics lifting the team over D-III Marymount University 4-3 this past week. The Crusaders capped off their perfect week with an 11-0 win over Southern State, while rugby fell to the Northern Virginia Griffins, Lady Crusader Soccer lost to Hagerstown Community College, and Lady Crusader Volleyball defeated Penn State Mont Alto.
This was the second meeting between the Crusaders and the Marymount Saints, and the first time on Christendom’s campus. The Saints jumped on the board early 2-0, before Day began his scoring spree. Day, one of the most prolific scorers in college history, scored three unanswered goals in the first half, before Marymount tied it in the 40th minute. A defensive battle occurred the rest of the way, before Day finally broke through with his fourth goal of the game, sealing a 4-3 victory.
Day would add another goal to his impressive week on Saturday, scoring once in Christendom’s 11-0 win over Southern State. The Crusaders are now 4-1 on their season.
In Nokesville, Virginia, Crusader rugby played their third game of the season, this time against the Northern Virginia Griffins, a consistently tough opponent for the Crusaders. Christendom fought through, but eventually came up short, losing 29-12 against the Griffins. The Crusaders are now 1-2 on their season.
At Hagerstown Community College, the Lady Crusaders took an early lead, 2-1, after goals by Annie McGraw and Martha Blank. Hagerstown took the lead, before Annie McGraw scored again to give the Lady Crusaders a 3-3 tie at the half. Unfortunately, that would be the end for Christendom scoring — Hagerstown scored three unanswered goals in the second half, winning 6-3.
At home, Lady Crusader Volleyball sealed up their seventh win of the season against Penn State Mont Alto. Celina Albisu and Michaela Pennefather led the way with 14 and 10.5 points respectively, lifting the Lady Crusaders to a 3-1 victory. The Lady Crusaders are now 7-5 on their season.
