Christendom started its 42nd academic year with a record enrollment of 504 students – a 30% increase in enrollment since fall of 2012. While most other colleges are seeing flat or declining enrollments over the same period of time, Christendom has consistently been seen as an ideal destination by today’s best and brightest students. Students want the college’s liberal arts education coupled with its authentically Catholic culture, and that desire is showing no sign of stopping, with Christendom seeing another huge increase in applications — already at 25% over last year’s numbers.

With 58 days left until the early-application deadline of December 1, the number of applications the admissions office is seeing is impressive. The office sets recruitment goals each year, but the continually growing level of interest in the college keeps shattering those expectations. The college plans to grow by 2% each year, until it reaches a total student body of 550 students, comprised of 450 residential students, 40 students studying in Rome, and 60 off-campus students. With the current rate of applications, there is a great expectation that these goals will be met.

“After the college’s 40th anniversary celebrations, we cannot think of a better confirmation of the continued popularity and relevance of Christendom’s rigorous liberal arts education than these record numbers,” says director of admissions Sam Phillips. “The bold vision of our founder, Dr. Warren Carroll, is stronger than ever, and is drawing motivated students here to gain both an education for a lifetime and to be immersed in a culture that is spiritually and socially enriching. This year’s record enrollment was a significant achievement for the college, and seeing these record application numbers at this early stage of the recruiting cycle provides great encouragement and momentum as we look to see what exceptional students will join us next fall.”

The increased interest in the college has led the admissions office to expand its visit offerings this fall, adding a homeschool visit day to its existing fall open house schedule. With another opportunity to visit the college available, the admissions office is expecting the number of applications to only continue rising. Students are also taking advantage of the generous visit schedule whereby they can make a visit to campus almost any day during the academic year when classes are in session.  A record number of students have already been to campus this year or have booked their day or overnight visit for later during the fall – the most beautiful time of the year in the Shenandoah Valley.

Of the applications already received, 87% are from attendees of the Experience Christendom Summer Program – the most popular pre-college summer program of its kind, giving students a taste of the educational experience that Christendom has to offer. That taste is proving to be not enough for these students, resulting in the record number of applications already received.

The world is a rapidly changing place, but Christendom’s education is just as rock solid as ever, drawing students from all over the world who want to go out and “restore all things in Christ.” Apply today at christendom.edu/apply.
