The Crusader rugby and soccer teams closed out their regular seasons strong, with the rugby team defeating Navy Developmental 19-0 and the soccer team tying rival Washington Adventist 1-1 in double overtime — the only Crusader goal coming from senior Pete Day, who set a new school record in the process.

Playing in Annapolis, Maryland, the Crusader rugby team entered the match looking to wrap up their regular season strong and secure a top seed for the upcoming Cardinals Conference Rugby tournament, which will determine if they will earn a National Championship berth. That drive clearly helped, as the Crusaders quickly scored on Navy and did not look back. This was the first time Christendom ever played Navy, and they made an impression with a 19-0 victory.

Thanks to their victory, the Crusaders secured the #1 seed for the CCRC tournament this weekend. They will play either James Madison or Christopher Newport University in the second round, and, if they make it through that round, they will face either Duke University, the College of William and Mary, or Longwood University in the final.

Back at home, the men’s soccer team took aim at redemption after falling to Washington Adventist last week, 3-2. Halfway into the first half, the Crusaders took an early lead 1-0, thanks to a historic goal from Pete Day. With his shot into the net, Day broke the Christendom record for most goals ever scored by a single player, previously held by 2009 alumna Catherine Leopold. His 82nd goal was his 26th of this season, securing his spot as the #2 scorer in the nation for 2018.

Day’s goal would prove to be Christendom’s only one, and Washington Adventist later tied the game in the second half. Christendom’s defense matched Washington Adventist at every turn for the rest of the game, not giving in all the way through 2OT. The game ended in Christendom’s first tie of the season, wrapping up their regular season in the process.

The Crusaders will learn if they are moving on to the USCAA National Championship this evening, October 30, when the competing teams are announced. Watch the announcement here at 5:30 p.m.
