Christendom’s rugby team will continue on this fall, as the Crusaders defeated the College of Charleston 62-5 in the Mid-Atlantic South Region qualifier on November 10, earning them a spot in the NSCRO regional championship and a chance to win the National Championship next spring.
The Crusaders traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina, as the Cardinals Collegiate Rugby Conference champions, after defeating Duke University for the title last weekend. After falling early in the NSCRO 15s National Championship playoffs last year, the Crusaders entered the match hungry to make a statement and continue on in the playoffs.
That hunger translated to points on the board early, as the #5 ranked Crusaders scored try after try against #18 College of Charleston. The team’s resilience and growth over the past few months translated to a stunning victory, with a final score of 62-5 and something even sweeter: an invitation to the Mid-Atlantic South Region Championship December 1-2.
Christendom now waits to discover against whom they will compete, with all other potential opponents competing in their own qualifying matches over the coming weeks. They will practice hard in the meantime, preparing to bring Christendom rugby back to Raleigh in a few weeks, with the hopes of advancing to the National Championship soon after.
