The men’s and women’s basketball teams returned from their winter breaks to take on USCAA rival University of Cincinnati-Clermont in Ohio over the weekend, falling in two close games to the Cougars.

For the Crusaders, the game against Cincinnati marked their first since December 8, when they played NCAA DIII Goucher College. A tough first half set the Crusaders behind right off the bat, as the Cougars nabbed a 57-34 lead. Christendom’s perseverance showed up in the second half, however, as the Crusaders poured on the points, outscoring the Cougars 49-42. While the game was still a loss, 99-83, the Crusaders’ second-half surge shows promise for the rest of the season.

The Lady Crusaders entered their game against Cincinnati-Clermont with a 1-3 record but coming off a crushing defeat of Patrick Henry College before the start of winter break. The strength showed in that match was visible on the court again, but the Lady Crusaders struggled against the Cougars’ defense, ultimately only scoring 41 points and falling 69-41.

On Monday, the Lady Crusaders returned home for their first home game of the spring semester against Warren Wilson. Despite a double-double from Mercy Willson and a strong rebound game from Georgie Messing, the Lady Crusaders failed to keep Warren Wilson at bay. An 84-35 defeat marked the 5th loss of the season for the Lady Crusaders.

The Crusaders will next play NCAA DII Belmont Abbey on January 16, while the Lady Crusaders will play Appalachian Bible on January 19. For more information, please visit christendomathletics.com.
