Christendom’s men’s and women’s basketball teams finished their seasons this past weekend, with the Crusaders falling to Williamson on senior day and the Lady Crusaders defeating Trinity University 78-38.

The Crusaders entered their home court to a cheering crowd on Saturday, ready to finish their season and say farewell to five seniors. A tough first half quickly put the Crusaders behind Williamson 45-20, but the Crusaders mounted a strong comeback in the second, holding Williamson to 30 points while scoring 28 of their own.

The season ended with a loss, 75-48, but the Crusader fans were still eager to celebrate the accomplishments of Patrick Pennefather, Ian Heisler, Johnny Echaniz, Shane McCrum, and AJ Lancaster, who all provided leadership for Christendom athletes during their four years at the college. The Crusaders ended their season with a 6-14 record, including a 3-3 record against conference opponents.

On the road, the Lady Crusaders aimed to finish their season strong against Trinity University, with graduating seniors eager to leave it all on the court in their final game ever. The Lady Crusaders earned a slim lead in the first quarter, before pouring it on in the second, scoring 31 points while holding Trinity to 9.

The Lady Crusaders ultimately won 78-38, with Helena Briggs leading the team in points with 18 and Gemma McMahon leading in rebounds with 11. Mercy Willson, the team’s star freshman, scored 17 points, finishing the season ranked in the Top 20 for scoring in the USCAA and ranked 5th in rebounds per game. The Lady Crusaders ended the season with an 8-8 record, including winning records against conference opponents and at home.
