Alumnus David McWhirter, along with eight of his classmates, was ordained a transitional deacon for the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP) by Bishop Joseph Perry, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Nebraska on March 30, 2019.

Deacon McWhirter joins seven other FSSP alumni vocations, including Fr. Gerard Saguto, Fr. Joseph Portzer, Fr. Thomas Longua, Fr. Chris Pelster, Fr. Daniel Heenan,  Fr. Zach Akers, and Deacon John Killackey, with a number of other alumni studying in their seminary for the priesthood.

Deacon McWhirter, who graduated from Christendom College in 2012, is one of 6 alumni who are now transitional deacons awaiting ordination to the priesthood this year. He joins fellow alumni Deacon Nicholas Blank ’13, Deacon David Frank ’12, Deacon John Killackey, FSSP, ’11, Deacon Steven Wood ’13, and Br. John Mark Solitario, OP, ’11, who will all be ordained to the priesthood this year.

Christendom College has helped foster many  alumni vocations, including 86 priests, 55 sisters, 7 brothers, 6 transitional deacons, 1 permanent deacon, and 25 men currently studying for the priesthood. Additionally, there have been over 460 alumna-to-alumnus marriages since the college’s founding in 1977.
