With three home games being played on Crusader field, and the volleyball team playing two away matches, this weekend proved to be an exciting time for Christendom athletics.

The rugby team crushed opponent Hampden-Sydney with a triple digit score of 116-5 during their home opener on Saturday. This victory comes on the heels of the team’s 59-5 victory against Virginia Commonwealth University last weekend. Last year the rugby team ranked #1 in the nation by NSCRO (National Small College Rugby Organization). With many seasoned returning athletes, as well as talented freshmen seeing time on the pitch this past Saturday, the team is eager to try and have another impressive year. The rugby team is playing away games for the next two weekends, but will be coming home on October 12 for a game against Southern Virginia.

The men’s soccer team also gained an impressive victory on Saturday, beating Central Penn 6-3. They are now on a two-game winning streak, defeating Northern Virginia Community College last Tuesday. Their record for the season now stands at 2-3. On Friday, they will take on Penn-State Brandywine, and play Valley Forge on Saturday.


After a hard fight, the women’s soccer team lost to Warren-Wilson 6-1. Their record for the season still stands at an impressive 5-2. The team has an away game on Wednesday, but thereafter they will be playing their next six games at home on Crusader Field. The team will be playing the Saturday of homecoming weekend against Trinity College.

The volleyball team defeated Mid-Atlantic Christian on Saturday, winning all three of the sets during their match. They also played Johnson and Wales, losing 0-3. This brings their season record to 3-9. The team has several upcoming away matches on the schedule, and their next match is against Gallaudet University on Tuesday. The team will play at home again on Saturday, October 12, when they take on Mid-Atlantic Christian for the second time during their season.
