With the rugby team travelling to North Carolina to compete for a spot in the regional championship, and the men’s and women’s basketball teams playing their home openers, it was an exciting week for Crusader athletics.

Last weekend, the Christendom rugby team defeated Duke University (46-7) and Washington and Lee (30-29) at the Cardinal Conference Tournament. These victories earned the team a spot in the Mid-South Qualifier, which the team competed in on Saturday. With a landslide 86-0 victory against Lander University, the team advances to the Mid Atlantic South Region Championship, which determines the region’s representatives in the National Small College Rugby Organization’s 15’s National Tournament, in which the team placed second last season. Crusader fans look forward to supporting the team as they travel to Raleigh, NC, December 7-8 to compete in the regional championship against Loyola MD, Susquehanna University, and Spring Hill.

It was great to see the basketball teams playing in the Crusader gymnasium for this first time this season. The women’s basketball team had their home opener or Wednesday and played against Central Penn. After a great effort by the team, the Lady Crusaders ultimately suffered a 74-31 loss. On Saturday, the team played again at home against Penn State Mont Alto and lost 70-31. The Lady Crusader’s next game is away at Patrick Henry College on Monday, November 25th. Half of the players on the team are freshmen, so it will be exciting to see how the team develops with so much fresh talent on the court.

The men’s basketball team had their first game on Saturday against Penn State Mont Alto. After a hard fight, the team lost 97-32. Like the women’s team there is plenty of fresh talent, with 6 of the 15 athletes on the roster being freshmen. The team has a packed week of upcoming games. Tomorrow the team will take on Goucher College at 7:00 in the Crusader Gymnasium. The team will play away against the Virginia Military Institute on Wednesday, and will travel again on Friday to play McDaniel College. The team will be taking on fellow Newman Guide School, Ave Maria University at Tuesday, November 26th, which will certainly prove to be an exciting event.

All Crusader athletic events are free of cost and open to the public. For schedules, rosters, results, and statistics, visit the Christendom athletics page.
