Golfers and friends of Christendom College will have the opportunity to golf and raise money for Christendom’s student-athletes at the eleventh annual Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Golf Tournament on Monday, October 12. Held this year at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club in Front Royal, Virginia, the proceeds of the event will help fund the Thomas. S. Vander Woude Memorial Scholarship.

The day will begin at 10 a.m., with golfers going to the driving range and practice green at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club — dubbed one of the best places for a round of golf in Virginia by Golf Digest. At 11 a.m., after an opening prayer, golfers will begin tournament play. In the evening, players will enjoy camaraderie together while dining and taking part in a silent auction.

At past events, thousands have been raised in support of the college’s student-athletes. The Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Scholarship is awarded to select freshmen athletes each fall, with freshmen selected on the basis of their athletic skill, academic performance, and their character, both on and off the field. The 2020 recipients of the scholarship will be introduced at the dinner.

This scholarship is awarded in memory of former athletic director, Thomas Vander Woude, who sacrificed his life to save his son. Vander Woude is remembered not just for his heroic death, but for the character he showed as a father, husband, and devout Catholic.
