Since its launch in June, Christendom’s new, free online Principles Classes initiative has filled a gap for Catholics across the nation, providing them with guidance on important issues of faith and culture that they never experienced before. The first class, focusing on Christ as the center of history, has helped illuminate the deeper meaning of history for these Catholics — an experience that has been nothing short of “outstanding,” according to them.

Christendom started Principles Classes as an answer to the challenging culture that Catholics find themselves in today, where many are afraid to live their Faith to the fullest. Many do not know how to answer questions posed by those holding secular beliefs, whether because they never received a Catholic education, or their Catholic education was lukewarm at best. Principles Classes exists to fix that, offering Catholics free classes, taught by Christendom professors, that they can take from the comfort of home.

For one new student, Taylor Hughes, the experience has been enormously beneficial, and a way of evangelizing to others as well.

“[It’s an] outstanding initiative,” said Hughes. “History is what most of our separated brethren do not know, when knowing would help open them to the idea of joining in the fullness of the Catholic Church.”

The first class, Christ: The Center of History, was taught by college president Dr. Timothy O’Donnell. Presented in five 30-minute segments, the class provides an overview of three key ancient civilizations in order to show how God providentially prepared the world for the birth of His son.

For interested students, the class is available in full to participants to watch on their own schedule right now, helping them to grow in wisdom and understanding of Catholic heritage and enabling them to share the faith with others as well.

The class is the first of many from Principles, with another, featuring Christendom College history professor Dr. Brendan McGuire, set to be released later this fall. These new classes come in addition to other initiatives from Principles, including the video series Principles for Your Week and bi-monthly Principles essays.
