The men’s and women’s basketball teams wrapped up their seasons this past Saturday, with both teams securing victories — and over .500 records — with their defeats of Patrick Henry College.

In a season marked by many changes due to COVID-19 protocols, the Christendom Crusaders proved their perseverance both on and off the court. Their final game of the season provided not just their fourth victory of season with a 59-45 final, but also a potential glimpse at how strong the team will be in a full season — hopefully come next winter.

This season’s star players — John Paul Vander Woude, and Owen Kennedy — were joined by a strong showing from Peter Ethridge, who led the team with 12 points in the finale. Kennedy brought his total rebounds to 84 in the shortened season, while Vander Woude brought his season points total up to 136. Overall, the team finished with a 4-3 record, including a 3-1 record at home.

In the women’s basketball finale, the Crusaders defeated Patrick Henry handily 62-16, including a 38-2 first half. Kate Walz kept up her points lead with 17 on the day (finishing with 87 on the season) while freshman breakout Liliana Speier scored 10 points of her own. Agnes Wingate put up 12 rebounds, leading the team with 49 total on the season. Ultimately, the Crusaders finished with a 3-2 record on the season, including going undefeated against Patrick Henry.
