Christendom celebrated the achievements of seventeen Graduate School students on August 6, awarding Master of Arts in theological studies degrees to this year’s Graduate School of Theology graduating class. Seven graduates were also awarded Advanced Apostolic Catechetical Diplomas.

Fr. William Saunders, the first Dean of the Christendom College Graduate School upon its merger with the Notre Dame Institute in 1997, returned to celebrate this year’s Baccalaureate Mass. During his homily, Fr. Saunders encouraged graduates to go out into the world and fulfill the mission of Christendom to “restore all things in Christ.”

“Your graduation is just a step up to a greater challenge,” said Fr. Saunders. “It’s a step up to accept a special part in the mission of the church, to hand on the faith in a troubled time. You have to be a witness in the sense that you believe with a firm conviction. When you believe it, then people will listen, and then you will transfigure hearts. Even if the world seems totally dark, one light penetrates the darkness. Be that light.”

Following the conferral of degrees, graduate Deacon Michael Watts delivered this year’s Graduate School commencement address, inspiring his fellow graduates to evangelize in the world.
