Christendom’s sports teams all returned home this weekend for a packed weekend of Christendom athletics, with women’s volleyball and women’s soccer both completing shutout victories and men’s rugby starting their season with a blowout win over Christopher Newport University.

Women’s volleyball, off to a 1-3 start this season, returned home for their first official home games of the season on Saturday, competing in a tri-match in St. Louis the Crusader Gymnasium. Playing in front of an enthusiastic crowd, the team took on Regent University to start the day, managing to win the game 3-1. Later in the day, they returned to take on Penn State Beaver in a re-match from the USCAA Tip-Off Tournament earlier this month. They played to the exact same result, defeating Penn State 3-0 — raising their season record to 3-3.

Over on Crusader Fields, the women’s soccer team looked to bounce back from a tough 2-0 loss to Montgomery College on Thursday in a game against Penn State Beaver. Like their peers on the volleyball team, the women’s soccer team cruised to a 5-0 shutout, with Miranda Keller and the rest of Christendom’s defense holding off Penn State throughout the game. The shutout marks the second of the season for the women’s soccer team, while also raising their record to 3-2 on the season.

To wrap up the day for Christendom Athletics, the men’s rugby team played their first game of the regular season against Christopher Newport University, beginning their journey to defend their National Collegiate Rugby 15s National Champions status. The team picked up right where they left off, pouring points on Christopher Newport throughout the game. Christendom ultimately won 100-22, one of their most lopsided victories and a promising start to their 2022 campaign.

Meanwhile, on Friday evening, the men’s soccer team took on Berkeley-NJ at home, falling to them 5-1. The team is now 0-3 on the season, hoping to capture their first win of the season this coming Monday against Mary Baldwin.
