Theology professors Dr. Matthew Tsakanikas and Dr. Conor Sweeney are featured in the new EWTN series “The Heresies,” which began airing earlier this month. Both faculty members will appear in the upcoming episode “American Heresies,” which will air on Tuesday, January 31 at 6:30 pm EST.
“The Heresies” is a 13-part series that documents the various heresies of Gnosticism, Jansenism, Arianism, Modernism, and others that have threatened the orthodox teachings of the Catholic Church through the centuries. Hosted by actor and producer Tim Moriarty, who has starred on Marvel and NBC television productions, the show features noted priests, theologians, and philosophers who provide analysis and insight — including Tsakanikas and Sweeney.
Sweeney, who is an Associate Professor of Theology at Christendom, joined the series on episode 11 to offer his expertise in Post-Modernism, its history, and its threats to the Catholic Church. Tsakanikas, also an Associate Professor at the college, was featured in episode 12, titled “Heresies Against the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.” Both feature in the newest episode on “American Heresies,” providing commentary on the unique heresies that have arisen in the United States that threaten the Church.
Tsakanikas is a popular writer, with his essays featured in Catholic World Report, Homiletic and Pastoral Review, Communio and other publications. An expert on the Book of Genesis and Thomistic moral theology, Tsakanikas teaches Fundamentals of Catholic Doctrine, Catholic Apologetics, Old and New Testament, and more at Christendom.
Sweeney, like Tsakanikas, also teaches Moral Theology at the college, along with Apologetics and the Fundamentals of Catholic Doctrine. He has written multiple books, including Abiding the Long Defeat: How to Evangelize Like a Hobbit in a Disenchanted Age, Sacramental Presence After Heidegger: Onto-theology, Sacraments, and the Mother’s Smile, and contributed to the Ratzinger Theological Dictionary, which is forthcoming from Ignatius Press.
