Members of Christendom’s Class of 2023 were honored with academic, athletic and community achievement awards on Wednesday, May 3, during the college’s annual Senior Awards Luncheon. The event honored the best and brightest of the class, recognizing individuals for their contributions to the Christendom community.
The Student Activities Council’s (SAC) Joe McGlynn Award for Service was given to John Donahoe. Demonstrating leadership and hard work on hundreds of college events, Donahoe exemplified the selfless giving spirit that is a trademark of Christendom’s SAC.
Crusader Leadership Award-winner JP DeJak.
The Crusader Leadership Award was given to JP DeJak for his exemplary contributions to the college’s athletics department. He was an important leader both on and off the field during his time at Christendom, competing for the college in varsity baseball.
Five of the college’s academic departments also honored seniors with awards.
The English department’s Robert C. Rice Award for Outstanding English Language and Literature Major was awarded to Claire Guernsey.
The English Language and Literature department’s Robert C. Rice Award for Outstanding English Language and Literature Major was awarded to Claire Guernsey, who distinguished herself through outstanding scholarship, collegiality, and written success. Her thesis topic, “Austen’s Christo-Aristotelian Presentation of Female Friendship in Pride and Prejudice and Emma,” is a prime example of her outstanding work.
Philosophy Department professor Dr. Daniel McInerny presented the Outstanding Senior Philosophy Major Award to Christina Burke, in absentia.
For the Philosophy department’s Outstanding Senior Philosophy Major Award, Christina Burke was recognized for her thesis: “Reconciliation between the Active Life and Contemplative Life: How Man Will Find His Fulfillment.”
The History department’s Warren H. Carroll Award for Outstanding Senior History Thesis was given to Bridget Crnkovich
The History department’s Warren H. Carroll Award for Outstanding Senior History Thesis was given to Bridget Crnkovich. Her thesis “‘Give Me That Old Time Religion’: The Movements behind Evangelical Religion in the Antebellum and Postbellum South,” exemplified the historical scholarship standard set by Christendom’s founder, Dr. Warren Carroll.
Rebecca Kaminski, Rachel Riordan, and Sarah Scarchilli were each awarded the theology department’s William H. Marshner Award.
Rebecca Kaminski, Rachel Riordan, and Sarah Scarchilli were each awarded the Theology department’s William H. Marshner Award for their theses titled “A Heart Contrite and Humble: Reconciling the Scrupulous with Perfect Contrition,” “God’s Messengers: The Role of Angels in the Salvation of Man,” and “Who Raised Jesus from the Dead? A Comparison of Resurrection Terminology in the New Testament Writings of Paul, Luke, and John,” respectively.
Kaelan Damitz was awarded the Political Science and Economics department’s St. Thomas More Award.
Finally, the Political Science and Economics department awarded Kaelan Damitz the department’s St. Thomas More Award for her thesis, “The Bill of Rights: Friend or Foe of American Liberty?”
The annual Awards Luncheon is held to recognize the best and brightest of each graduating class at Christendom College, acknowledging their academic and leadership achievements before the entire Christendom community.
