Alumnus John Clark ‘92 has written a new book, Betrayed without a Kiss: Defending Marriage after Years of Failed Leadership in the Church. Published by TAN Books, Clark’s book identifies the “critical marital problems impacting the Church while providing practical solutions to help both laity and clergy nourish and heal Catholic marriages.”
Clark graduated from Christendom with a degree in Political Science and Economics and works as a columnist, political speechwriter, and ghostwriter. He also has served as the host of the popular web series, Professors on Break, which featured Clark interviewing Christendom professors. As a Christendom student, Clark was able to delve deeply into Church teaching on marriage and the family and its crucial role in society. He has authored two books on fatherhood and written approximately five hundred articles and blogs about Catholic family life and apologetics on such platforms as The National Catholic Register and the Magis Center. He is also an online course developer for Seton Home Study School.
Drawing on his extensive experience as an author and his historical, political, and ecclesiastical studies, Clark exposes the diabolical attack on marriage that has even infected members and clergy within the Church itself. Clark demonstrates how the increased indifference toward the sanctity of marriage has undermined love and reverence for the Eucharist and contributed to the massive crisis of faith afflicting Catholic laity. Recognizing that marriage is under attack, Clark inspires readers with his narration of biblical marriage stories, early Christian martyrs, and rallies Catholics to stand for marriage by leaning on the Blessed Mother, St. Joseph, and the saints.
Since its release, Clark’s book has been acclaimed by critics, readers, and pastors, including Fr. Gerald E. Murray, a member of EWTN’s The Papal Posse.
“John Clark has written a spirited defense of marriage against the errors of our time,” says Fr. Murray. This book is a refreshing reminder that marriage is a blessing from God that produces joy even amidst difficulties.”
Catholic author Leila Miller further praises Betrayed without a Kiss for its systematic detail and undeniably excellent evidence.
“In this book, John Clark masterfully explains the vastness of the war on marriage while providing the beautifully articulated simple truth that the vows of marriage are as indissoluble as Christ’s vow to the Church: ‘I am with you, always,’” says Miller.
Clark’s work also adds to the growing list of books from Christendom alumni, including Andrew Youngblood’s ‘93 Know Thyself, Mary-Rose Verret’s ’04 Witness to Love, and others. Clark lives in central Florida with his wife, Lisa ‘90, and their nine children, including alumni Athanasius ’18, Demetrius ’20, and Tarcisius ’23.
