Christendom’s men’s basketball team closed their 2023-24 season with a flourish, defeating Manor College 85-75 in the Eastern States Athletic Conference Championship game.
The team, which roared back in their final few weeks of play to earn a trip to the conference championship game, took on Manor College for the second time this season, after defeating them in their regular season finale. Christendom picked up right where they left off against Manor, going up 46-30 in the first half of the game. Manor, however, refused to go down without a fight, making the game tight in the second half.
With minutes left on the clock, Christendom’s defense got to work, shutting down Manor to hold the lead. The Crusaders ultimately won the game 85-75, winning their first conference championship title. The win proved to be a real team effort, with four different players dropping points in the double-digits for the team. Bobby Vander Woude led the team with 17 points, while Peter Ethridge recorded a double-double in his final game for the Christendom Crusaders. John Paul Vander Woude, the longtime leader of the team, also scored 14 points in his final game.
The team finished the season with a 14-10 record, setting them up for great success as they already begin looking ahead to next season.
