On March 20, Christendom’s Career and Professional Development Office hosted its second Life on Tap event of the semester. Alumnae Rose Herlihy ‘15, Dr. Emily Janaro ‘19, and Dr. Olivia Musilli ’17 shared their insights with the student body about their experiences preparing for and working in various medical fields.
Herlihy studied to become a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital of Nursing in Pittsburgh and is now working as a clinical instructor at Laurel Ridge Community. She has worked in neuro and cardiac stepdown units and spent a few years working as a travel nurse. Dr. Janaro received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2023 and currently works as a Physical Therapist for Valley Health at an outpatient location in Front Royal. Dr. Musilli graduated from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2022 and is currently working as a second-year Family Medicine resident at Meadville Medical Center.
The alumnae shared how they chose their respective disciplines and the schooling required to reach their goals. To close the event, each alumna talked about their day-to-day responsibilities and how their Christendom education prepared them for this important work. All of them agreed no matter what medical field you are in, hard work, dedication, patience, and trust in God is essential to success.
With more and more Christendom students pursuing medical careers post-graduation, the college has worked hard to expand its science offerings in recent years, making it possible for students to fulfill medical school prerequisites before graduation. The college will also soon unveil its new Natural Science major, designed to prepare students primarily for medicine, science education, and nursing. This major will give students the opportunity to satisfy key prerequisites, including in biology, physics, and chemistry, while also training them to be lights in their fields thanks to the full Christendom education.

The Christendom liberal arts curriculum, far from limiting its graduates in their future careers, opens the door to a world of possibilities in every major field. Through the study of the Catholic liberal arts, Christendom’s students encounter a universal study of knowledge – through mathematics, history, literature, classics, and political science – unified by the central role of philosophy and theology.
The Life on Tap series connects successful alumni in various fields with current students, demonstrating the paths that countless alumni have taken to succeed after graduating. The Career and Professional Development Office typically organizes three Life on Tap events every semester which are open to all students.
