Christendom Athletics wrapped up their 2023-24 season with over 50 Academic All-Americans, as announced by the department this week. This achievement, which comes in addition to a hugely successful season for Christendom Athletics, is a testament to the hard work and dedication performed by the college’s student-athletes both on and off the field.

Over the course of the past academic year, Christendom’s varsity sports teams achieved a cumulative GPA average of 3.51 for the 2023-24 season — including the women’s basketball team achieving a 3.81 GPA. That same women’s basketball team stunned the USCAA by winning their first national championship this past season, showing their prowess both on the court and in the classroom.

The national champion women's basketball team also led the all athletic teams with a 3.81 GPA.

In addition, over 50 total Christendom student-athletes qualified for Academic All-American honors. To be named an Academic All-American, an athlete must achieve a 3.5 cumulative GPA, all while participating in a varsity sport. While participating in a varsity sport is demanding, these students showed the ability to prioritize their studies and balance commitments — a trademark of Christendom’s athletic program.

This year’s Academic All-Americans include Juliana Beckman, Regina Bonvissuto, Catherine Brezinsky, Jude Burkett, Thomas Cahill, Mary Corcoran, Amelia Coleman, Regina Cousino, Joshua Cruz, David Echaniz, Peter Ethridge, Angelina Fedoryka, Rachel Grande, Alex Girata, John Hand, Erin Hatley, Andrew Heisler, John Hill, Anna Hsu, Thomas Humm, Miranda Keller, Colleen Kosten, Sam Kristine. Andrew Krolick, Elizabeth Kuss, Megan Lovar, Bridget McCaughey, Eibhilin McCloskey, Mary Noble, Christy Rodriguez, Isabella Rodriguez, Luke Roman, Gracie Russo, Mary Sabados, Elizabeth Scarchilli, John Skuba, Hannah Simpson, Stephen Simpson, Lili Speier, Virginial Stahl, Peter Sullivan, Thomas Sullivan, Catherine Thomas, Michael Townsend, Chris Usher, Bobby Vander Woude, John Paul Vander Woude, Nicholas Ward, Ryan Welch, Clare Witter, and Charlie Wyckoff.

Christendom also finished second in the USCAA’s 2024 President’s Cup voting. The USCAA President’s Cup is voted on each year by the USCAA President’s Cup committee, which rewards points to institutions based on their rank against other institutions in program GPA, All-Academic award winners (3.5 GPA+ individuals), and overall athletic department GPA.

Since the award’s inception in 2018, Christendom has won the award 3 times, placed second twice, and placed third once as well — a testament to the college’s strength in balancing sports success with academic excellence.
