Christendom College will welcome back alumni and friends of Christendom for the fifteenth annual Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Golf Tournament on Monday, October 14. The golf tournament, held this year at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club in Front Royal, Virginia, raises funds for the Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Scholarship, which supports student-athletes at Christendom each year.
The day will begin at 9:00 a.m., with golfers checking in before going to the driving range and practice green at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club — dubbed one of the best places for a round of golf in Virginia by Golf Digest. At 11:00 a.m., after an opening prayer, golfers will begin tournament play, which will also include opportunities for prizes. In the evening, players will enjoy camaraderie together while dining at the post-tournament reception.
At past golf tournaments, thousands have been raised in support of the college’s student-athletes, including $25,000+ last year. The Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Scholarship is awarded to select freshmen athletes each fall, with freshmen selected based on their athletic skill, academic performance, and their character, both on and off the field. The 2024-25 recipients of the scholarship will be introduced at the reception.
This scholarship is awarded in memory of former athletic director, Thomas Vander Woude, who sacrificed his life to save his son. Vander Woude is remembered not just for his heroic death, but for the character he showed as a father, husband, and devout Catholic.
