This fall semester, Christendom’s Career and Professional Development Office will welcome many successful alumni back to campus to take part in the popular Life on Tap alumni networking series. These events help current students learn more about various professions and opportunities for further education available to them with their liberal arts degree.
“Welcoming alumni to campus each semester to share about their successes gives students the opportunity to see what is possible with their Christendom education,” says Director of Career and Professional Development Kristin Stephens. “The alumni offer insight and experience unique to Christendom students, especially on how to use their liberal arts education to pursue their passions and live out the mission of the College.”
Over the course of this semester, students will hear from several alumni with diverse experiences, including political writers, first responders, and graphic designers involved with animation.
On September 11, alumni Maggie Black ‘23, Charlie Spiering ‘05, and Gabriela Pariseau ‘20 will share their experiences of political writing in DC. On September 25, alumni Helena Briggs ‘19 and Nate Scanlon ‘22 will speak about their work as first responders, in various capacities, including firefighting, hazmat operations, and EMT work. To round out the series, on October 9, Andrew Ciskanik ‘12 and Libby Peterson ‘18 will talk about their work in graphic design and animation.
The Christendom liberal arts curriculum, far from limiting its graduates in their future careers, opens the door to a world of possibilities in any major field. Through the study of the Catholic liberal arts, Christendom’s students encounter a universal study of knowledge — through mathematics, history, literature, classics, and political science — unified by the central role of philosophy and theology. As St. John Henry Newman observed, by seeking the truth though various disciplines, the student attains an intellectual prowess in which he can take up any career and thrive with competence, versatility, and success.
The Life on Tap series demonstrates this success fulfilled in the lives of countless alumni, who share their insights with current students. Each event consists of a panel interview with the alumni guests, hosted by Director of Career and Professional Development Kristin Stephens, followed by a Q&A with the students.
All events are held from 7-9 p.m. in Old Chapel Hall and are only for members of the Christendom community.
