Christendom’s women’s basketball team is picking up right where they left off. Fresh off their first-ever national championship, the Crusaders extended their undefeated start to the 2024-25 season with a 63-45 win over Howard CC this weekend, improving to 3-0.

After stunning the USCAA with their national championship run last season, Christendom entered the 2024-25 season with even loftier expectations. Right from the jump, they cleared them, opening with dominant wins over Hagerstown and Bucks County, thanks to stellar performances from last season’s leading scorers Mary Pennefather and Catherine Thomas.

Saturday’s showdown with Howard CC offered the toughest test yet. The visitors came out firing, outscoring Christendom 13-11 in the first quarter. But the Crusaders hit back hard, closing out the half on a tear to claim a 35-25 lead. Howard made it interesting with a third-quarter push, but Christendom locked things down in the fourth, holding Howard to just seven points to seal the win.

Thomas led the charge with a 25-point, double-double performance, while Pennefather added 19 points and grabbed double-digit boards of her own. Regina Bonvissuto also shone, dropping 17 points to round out a commanding team effort.

Next up: Penn State York on Tuesday, where the Crusaders will look to keep their win streak alive heading into December.

Men’s Basketball

Christendom’s men’s basketball team is grinding to start their season. After three straight losses to tough NCAA competition, the Crusaders finally found their groove Saturday, cruising to an 82-47 win over The Crown College at home.

From the jump, Christendom took control of the game, racing to a 38-19 halftime lead behind big performances from John Fowler, Daniel Schultz, and Joe Ethridge. The trio kept the pressure on in the second half, ensuring there was no let-up in the team’s first victory of the season.

Fowler led the scoring with 19 points, while Schultz and Ethridge chipped in 15 each. Schultz and Edmund Thomas both posted double-doubles, anchoring a dominant showing on both ends of the floor.

Now sitting at 1-3, the Crusaders have momentum on their side as they prepare for a Tuesday matchup against Penn State York.
