The Crusaders are on top. For the first time in program history, Christendom College’s women’s basketball team has achieved a USCAA #1 national ranking, a monumental moment for a program that captured its first national championship just last season.

The Crusaders have started their 2024 campaign in dominant fashion, racing out to a 4-0 record. Their latest win, an 82-62 victory over Penn State York, showcased the offensive power that has made them a force to be reckoned with. Christendom basketball star Catherine Thomas, in her final season of play, dropped 36 in her best game of the season yet, currently ranking second in the USCAA in points per game with 26.3. Right behind her? Mary Pennefather, just like last season. She scored 22 in the game against Penn State York and is currently ranked #3 in points per game with 24.3, while also ranking second in 3PT percentage with 45.2

The team is aiming for one of the hardest tasks in sports — repeating as national champions, after stunning the USCAA with their championship win last season. While still early in the season, they are off to the best start possible, with five games left in the year before the start of Christmas break for the college. They will next play against Patrick Henry on Tuesday, December 3, at 5:30 pm.

This announcement comes on the heels of a terrific fall season for Christendom Athletics, which saw the women’s soccer team also achieve a #1 ranking for the first time in program history and finish as national champion runners-up. The men’s rugby team also finished strong in a rebuilding year, winning the Cardinals Conference Championship to close their 15s season.
