Christendom College President George A. Harne, Ph.D., will serve as the commencement speaker for this year’s Seton Home Study graduation, to be held on May 31. Dr. Harne, currently serving in his first year as Christendom College’s fourth president, will speak to over 1,000 guests at the Seton graduation, calling upon graduates to go forth and “restore all things in Christ” in the next stage of their lives.
This is the latest public address Dr. Harne has delivered since becoming Christendom’s new president last summer, following a keynote address at the Chelsea Academy summer conference and more. While Seton’s graduation ceremonies are closed to the public, Dr. Harne’s address will be available online following the event.
Christendom College and Seton Home Study have had a long and distinguished relationship over the years, with Seton Home Study founded by Anne Carroll, wife of Christendom founder Dr. Warren Carroll. Over the years, many Seton graduates have enrolled and graduated from Christendom, finding it to be the perfect continuation of what they previously received at Seton.
Dr. Harne is the latest major figure to serve as commencement speaker for Seton Home Study, following previous speakers Raymond Arroyo, Joseph Pearce, Dr. Ray Guarendi, and Christendom College President Emeritus Dr. Timothy O’Donnell.
A widely respected and accomplished scholar of music history and the liberal arts, Dr. Harne earned his Ph.D. from Princeton University and received master’s degrees from Princeton, St. John’s College, and the University of Washington. Dr. Harne has appeared on EWTN and various podcasts, has written for First Things, The Imaginative Conservative, The National Catholic Register, is the host of the new Christendom Conversations podcast, and is in the midst of completing two different manuscripts on medieval music. He is also a frequent lecturer on Catholic liberal education and its place in the modern world.
He lives in Front Royal, Virginia, with his wife, Debbie, and their five children.
