Christendom College mourns the passing of longtime professor Fr. Brian Mullady, who died on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. A beloved theologian and speaker, Fr. Mullady taught for the Christendom Graduate School’s summer Vita Consecrata Institute from 2006 to 2023. He was 78.

“Fr. Mullady was a priest after the heart of Jesus Christ and a learned theologian who was famous to our students for his fidelity, warm disposition, clarity of thought, and sense of humor,” says Dr. R.J. Matava, Dean of the Graduate School. “He had a special talent for explaining profound theological matters in a clear and simple way. Above all, he will be remembered for his indefatigable passion for making the way of Christ known to others.”

Born in Syracuse, New York, on October 16, 1946, Fr. Mullady entered the Order of Preachers in 1966, made his solemn profession with the Western Dominican Province in 1970, and was ordained a priest in 1972. He earned his B.A. in philosophy and his M.A. in theology from St. Albert’s College in Oakland, California, before completing his doctorate in moral theology at the Angelicum in Rome.

Fr. Mullady was the author of more than half a dozen books, including Man’s Desire for God, Both Servant and Free: A Primer in Fundamental Moral Theology, Christian Social Order, St. Thomas Aquinas Rescues Modern Psychology, and A Light to All Nations: On the Nature and Mission of the Church, along with numerous articles. He also translated St. Thomas Aquinas’s Commentary on the Book of Job. A frequent guest on EWTN, Fr. Mullady traveled extensively, giving lectures throughout his distinguished academic and priestly career.

As a core faculty member at Christendom’s Graduate School, Fr. Mullady taught for seventeen years at the summer Vita Consecrata Institute, from its founding in 2006 until 2023. His courses consistently drew record attendance, where he shared wisdom gained from a lifetime of prayer, study, and ministry. Fr. Mullady was one of the Graduate School’s most popular and beloved professors, impacting countless students with his teaching and example. Fr. Mullady will be sorely missed by the entire Christendom community.

May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
