There have been questions or concerns regarding a notice Christendom College received from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) last year. To provide clarity on this matter, the college would like to share the following official statement.

Christendom College remains fully committed to environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance, particularly in the management of its wastewater treatment plant operations. In accordance with the requirements outlined in its Virginia Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (VPDES) permit, issued by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), the college has met all obligations. We have maintained a cooperative and transparent relationship with DEQ, responding openly and promptly to all inquiries and situations.

The college has been invested and proactive in its approach. Over the years, Christendom has spent more than half a million dollars on equipment upgrades and treatment services. For over 25 years, we have partnered with the licensed third-party firm Inboden Environmental Services, whose technicians inspect the system daily to ensure consistent, compliant operations.

Guided by Christian principles and the biblical call to stewardship, Christendom views environmental responsibility not merely as a regulatory requirement but as a moral duty grounded in care for our neighbors, respect for the natural world, and commitment to the common good. Our sustained investment in wastewater management reflects this deeper dedication to safeguarding the environment and promoting the well-being of our broader community.
