Christendom College mourns the passing of former professor Daniel Schneible, who died peacefully on May 6, 2025. A devoted husband and father, accomplished musician, Vietnam War veteran, and beloved member of the Christendom community, Schneible leaves behind a lasting legacy through his service to the college and to his country. He was 81.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1943, Schneible earned a degree in mathematics from Saint Bernard College, where he also nurtured a love of acting and music. He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy for two decades, rising to the rank of commander and completing tours during the Vietnam War. After retiring from active duty, he continued his public service as a civilian with the U.S. Coast Guard.

In 1991, Schneible began teaching mathematics at Christendom College. Over the next decade, he became known not only as a knowledgeable and compassionate professor, but also as a joyful contributor to campus life. He volunteered in Christendom Players productions, coached the college’s first-ever baseball team, and shared his musical talents at Christendom’s Coffee House events, often performing alongside his children.

Schneible is remembered fondly by former students and colleagues for his warmth, dedication, and encouragement. His influence extended far beyond the classroom, shaping lives through his quiet witness to faith, his intellectual curiosity, and his deep love for Christ and His Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and their five children — all Christendom alumni: Susan Hibl (’90), Sr. Mary Charitas of the Child Jesus, P.C.C. (’94), Therese Prudlo (’99), Danny Schneible (’01), and Ann Schneible (’04). He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Schneible will be sorely missed by the entire Christendom community.

May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
