Christendom’s men’s rugby team wrapped up their three-game homestand with their strongest win of the season yet on Saturday, shutting down Virginia Commonwealth University 55-0. The win — their second shutout of the season — sets the team up well before their regular season finale this coming Friday against the University of Richmond.
From the opening whistle, Christendom’s intent was clear. The forwards controlled possession, the backs moved with precision, and the scoreboard reflected it — 36–0 by halftime, fueled by tries from Jimmy Coffey, Anthony Pegis, Ben O’Brien, and Hugh McCloskey. In the second half, the team did not let up. Nate Sheedy and O’Brien added two more tries, sealing a statement win for a squad eager to make noise in the postseason.
Christendom will travel to Richmond on Friday, October 17, under the lights — and with momentum firmly on their side.
Women’s Volleyball
After dropping two straight, Christendom’s women’s volleyball team needed a spark. They found it Thursday night at home against Cheyney, outlasting their opponent 3–1 in a gritty, momentum-swinging match.
Christendom opened strong, faltered in the second set, then regrouped to take control down the stretch. Serenity Fedoryka led the way with a dominant 29.5-point performance, while Aimee Simpson (25 digs) and Lucy Stahl (14 digs) anchored the defense.
Christendom returns to action after Fall Break, hosting The Crown College on Friday, October 24.
Men’s Soccer
Traveling to Manor College this past weekend, the men’s soccer team jumped out to an early lead thanks to a clutch corner kick from Luke Vander Woude. Manor would tie it up minutes later, before Vander Woude gave Christendom the lead once again. That lead would hold all the way until the 87:00 minute mark, when Manor suddenly tied the game. That score would ultimately hold, with Christendom tying 2-2.
The team will next play at home against Penn State New Kensington on Wednesday, October 15.
Women’s Soccer
The women’s soccer team welcomed NCAA DIII Johnson & Wales to campus over the weekend, but failed to hold off their impressive offense. The team fell 3-0 to Johnson & Wales, only their third loss of the season.
The team will next play Penn State Mont Alto at home on Thursday, October 16.
