Christendom will welcome a record number of competitors for this year’s Padre Pio Full-Tuition Scholarship Competition on Saturday, March 28. The annual event attracts the best and brightest of Christendom’s applicants each year, all eager to compete for a chance at attending the college for only the cost of room, board, and fees.

This year’s scholarship competition will feature 119 students — the largest group in the history of the competition — with students anticipated to travel from 28 states and Canada for this year’s competition, hoping to win one of the four full-tuition scholarships. Seven $5,000 William Carrigan Scholarships will be awarded as well, which are also renewable for all four years. These scholarships are named in honor of longtime college benefactor William Carrigan, who was the inspiration behind and reason for the establishment of the full-tuition scholarship named in honor of St. Padre Pio, a personal friend of Carrigan (learn more about Carrigan here).

Finally, all participants who do not receive the Padre Pio Scholarship or William Carrigan Scholarship will receive a $1,000 competitor scholarship that is renewable all four years.

Over the course of the competition day on March 28, participants will attend Mass in the college’s Christ the King Chapel, take part in a 60-minute essay competition focusing on Josef Pieper’s Only the Lover Sings, followed by individual interviews with a scholarship panel. Participants and their families will also hear addresses from College President George A. Harne, Ph.D., Admissions Director Sam Phillips, and members of Christendom’s faculty about how they will learn the Truth, live the faith, and thrive as Catholics at Christendom, with a formal dinner reception closing the day.
