Christendom College’s Career and Professional Development Office hosted its second Education Career Fair this past month, welcoming school representatives to campus as a chance for students to meet potential employers and network for teaching jobs.

Twenty-four schools — diocesan, private, and public — participated in the career fair, giving Christendom’s student body the opportunity to connect directly with school representatives. Several schools were actively hiring teachers for the upcoming school year, and seniors attended ready to discuss post-graduation jobs.

Students appreciated that the fair allowed them to connect face-to-face with possible employers and boosted their confidence in applying for teaching jobs.

“The timing of the event was perfect for me because this is the time that I am applying for jobs. All the people I spoke to were lovely, and it was very informative. I loved that I was able to personally connect with them and not just be a name on an application,” says senior Monica Katreeb.

“I even received the opportunity for an interview with one of the schools. This fair eased a lot of stress I had surrounding the job application process and made it easier for me to have the personal connection, which I love.”

In addition to the education career fair, the college’s Career and Development Office regularly hosts school representatives on campus who meet with students one-on-one or in small groups to share job openings. This emphasis on direct networking and meaningful connections sets Christendom apart from other schools, giving students a distinct advantage in securing career opportunities and achieving long-term success.

“In the past 8 years, I have connected with almost 200 schools and dioceses who are interested in recruiting Christendom students to teach,” says Kristin Stephens, Director of Career and Professional Development at Christendom. “The recruiters often cite Christendom’s expansive liberal arts curriculum and faithfulness to Catholic teachings as reasons for seeking out our graduates.”

Educators and school representatives at the career fair were thrilled to have the opportunity to connect with well-educated students and potential teachers.

“I was able to meet and chat with many wonderful Christendom students, and I was consistently impressed with their professionalism and passion for education,” says Sara Freund, who represented Seton Teaching Fellows at the fair. “It means so much to have your support for our work in Catholic Education.”

Education is a highly popular career field for Christendom graduates, with around 16% of the class of 2025 working in education post-graduation. A Christendom education prepares students to be excellent teachers, with their liberal arts degree giving them a critical basis of philosophy and a balanced worldview. It is essential that the teachers educating today’s students are themselves well-formed, and Christendom provides this formation.

The timing of this career fair is also ideal for students hoping to earn a graduate degree alongside teaching, with Christendom announcing the launch of its brand-new Center for Educational Philosophy and Leadership last year. This center, which offers both master’s and doctoral degree programs in education (pending SACSCOC approval), is designed to equip educators, administrators, and aspiring leaders with the tools to transform Catholic education through the traditional liberal arts and the Catholic intellectual tradition. For students interested in a career in education post-graduation, the combination of the career fair with the new center makes the pathway to becoming a teacher more straightforward than ever.

Through events like the Education Career Fair, Christendom continues to connect students with meaningful professional opportunities while forming graduates ready to serve in classrooms across the country.
