carrollChristendom’s career and leadership development office, in unison with the alumni affairs office, will host a networking event on March 24, in honor of college founder Dr. Warren Carroll’s birthday. Part of this semester’s “Life on Tap” networking series, the event will feature numerous alumni, who will be available to network and share the secrets of their success with current students. The event will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., and refreshments will be provided.

“We are fortunate to have an extensive and dynamic alumni network in the local and D.C. area, and we’re excited to continue building a bridge between current students and those alumni in successful leadership positions, so that we can have one of the best and invested alumni-student relationships out of any Catholic college,” says director of career and leadership development Greg Monroe.

Warren Carroll was famous for coining, what he called, the “watchwords of Christendom.”  These five words were essential for any Christendom graduate to internalize: Truth exists. The Incarnation happened.  Fittingly, Carroll’s birthday on March 24 falls on the eve of the day on which the Incarnation happened – March 25, the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord – when the Word became Flesh at the moment when Mary gave her “fiat” to the angel Gabriel.

Carroll was born on March 24, 1932, and died on July 17, 2011, at the age of 79. He founded Christendom College in 1977 and was president until 1985. He remained teaching in the history department until his retirement in 2002, and is buried behind the college’s administrative building, Regina Coeli, in a graveyard overlooking the beautiful Shenandoah River.

The latest “Life on Tap” comes on the heels of past successful events, including last week’s talk, featuring alumni greats Sean Kay (’97) and Michele Velasco (’91), a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers and the vice president of finance for Sirius XM Radio, respectively. The “Life on Tap” series is one of the most popular events on campus, and all alumni, current students, faculty, and staff of Christendom College are encouraged to attend.

The “Life on Tap” series is a bi-monthly event organized by the college’s career and leadership development office, featuring noted alumni speaking on topics such as journalism, web development, and non-profit business. Previous “Life on Tap” events have featured alumni from PricewaterhouseCoopers, Sirius XM Radio, The National Catholic Register, RLA Mid-Atlantic, US News & World Report, and Valley Health Medical System, to name a few.
