Alumni Publishers, Editors, and Bestselling Authors to Mentor Students for Life on Tap
Feb 2, 2016
Alumni publishers, editors, and bestselling authors will return to campus next Tuesday, February 9 for the first “Life on Tap” networking event of 2016. A unique opportunity for students to learn the secrets to career success before graduation, “Life on Tap” will be held in St. Kilian’s Café at 7:30 pm, with refreshments provided.
Sponsored by the college’s career and leadership development office, Christendom’s “Life on Tap” series brings alumni speakers in a variety of fields back to campus several times each semester, in order to help current students see how their liberal arts education can be applied to any vocational calling.
Three of the college’s most successful alumni in the fields of publishing, editing, and writing — Brian Gallagher (’10), Lauren (Enk) Mann (’14), and Ben Hatke (’00) — will aim to give students that knowledge, as they explain how their Christendom education helped them achieve their current success.
Brian Gallagher (’10) earned his B.A. in political science and economics from Christendom in 2010, and soon after began studying accounting and financial services at Virginia Tech. An avid writer, Gallagher took his love of the publishing world to both Good Will Publishers and Saint Benedict Press, where he currently works as the director of business intelligence.
2014 valedictorian Lauren (Enk) Mann earned her B.A. in English language and literature during her four years at Christendom, where she also served as the editor-in-chief of the popular student magazine The Rambler. Upon graduation, Mann began working as assistant managing editor for Regnery Publishing in Washington, D.C., which specializes in works written by today’s top conservative writers. Mann also works as a freelance writer, with her articles finding publication in Crisis Magazine and Catholic World Report.
Ben Hatke is one of Christendom’s most well known alumni, thanks to his New York Times bestselling Zita the Spacegirl series. Hatke earned his B.A. in history from Christendom in 2000, and quickly took his love of art and storytelling to a series of graphic novels, including the Zita series, Little Robot, and Flight. Hatke was recently announced as the new illustrator for the famed Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle series, taking over for distinguished illustrator Maurice Sendak.
All students and alumni of the college are encouraged to attend. Christendom’s “Life on Tap” series is highly popular, so please arrive early for seating and refreshments.
