Rev. Mr. David McWhirter, FSSP (’12), will be ordained to the priesthood on Monday, June 1, making him Christendom’s ninety-second alumnus priest in its over 40-year history. Deacon McWhirter will join seven other alumni as priests in the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, fulfilling his calling to “restore all things in Christ.”
Deacon McWhirter was ordained to the transitional diaconate last spring and has spent the past year preparing for his ordination to the priesthood. On June 1, he will reach the highpoint of his vocational journey, joining four others in being ordained FSSP priests at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Several Christendom alumni have been ordained as FSSP priests over the years, with Deacon McWhirter becoming the seventh to join this order. He joins Fr. Gerard Saguto, Fr. Joseph Portzer, Fr. Thomas Longua, Fr. Chris Pelster, Fr. Daniel Heenan, Fr. Zach Akers, and Fr. John Killackey, with Deacon Joseph Dalimata currently preparing for the priesthood as well. Several other alumni are currently studying with FSSP.
Following the ordination of Deacon McWhirter, two more Christendom alumni will be ordained as priests this summer. Rev. Mr. Peter McShurley (’14) will be ordained on June 6 in the Diocese of Arlington while Rev. Mr. Miguel Flores-Perez (’02) will be ordained on June 27 in the Archdiocese of Military Services.
Three other alumni will be ordained to the transitional diaconate for the Diocese of Arlington on June 13: Jonathan Fioramonti (’14), John Paul Heisler (’17), and Joseph Townsend (’11).
