The Christendom College Crusaders will travel south to New Orleans for their fourth straight rugby 7s National Championship this coming Memorial Day Weekend. Entering the weekend ranked #4 in their bracket, Christendom will take on Marian University in the opening match of the “May Madness” championship on Saturday, May 29.
This year’s Rugby 7s National Championship will take on a different format from years past, with Christendom competing in a “March Madness” style bracket for the first time. With 32 teams in contention, including Army, Air Force, Franciscan University of Steubenville, Life University, and others, the competition will be fierce, but Christendom will enter the National Championship confident after previous title runs.
The Crusaders will first play Marian University at 4:40 p.m. on May 29 at the Shrine on Airline Stadium, home of Major League Rugby’s NOLA Gold. If they advance through that round, they will remain in the Premier Cup bracket and play Davenport University on Sunday, May 30, at 11:18 a.m., with the goal of making it all the way to the Premier Cup Final late afternoon on Memorial Day.
Christendom’s rugby team has found great success over the years, both in Rugby 15s and 7s, making National Championship runs in both formats — including the 7s National Championship-winning team in 2017. The team also earned the #1 ranking in the nation in 2018, in addition to a variety of other awards over the years.
