The men's basketball team playing against the College of Southern Maryland.

Christendom’s men’s basketball team bounced back in dramatic fashion on Friday, defeating Dabney S. Lancaster Community College in a 69-68 stunner. While they fell against College of Southern Maryland at home on Saturday, the women’s basketball team secured their seventh win against the school, defeating the Hawks 60-40.

The men’s basketball team ended the month of January with a tough loss to Anne Arundel and looked to quickly turn things back around to start February. Traveling to Dabney S. Lancaster, Christendom found themselves down 33-22 after the first half to their tough team, led by Tre McCrary and Dayshawn Hamilton. Christendom rallied, however, with John Paul Vander Woude and Owen Kennedy leading the way for Christendom. With minutes left on the clock, Christendom took the lead, eventually pulling off the 69-68 victory. Vander Woude finished with 28 points while Kennedy finished with a double-double.

Christendom carried that momentum into their home game against Southern Maryland on Saturday, taking a 41-35 lead after the half, again behind the terrific play of Vander Woude and Kennedy. The Hawks were able to rally in the second half, however, with their defense holding Christendom back. Christendom took the tough loss 77-69, dropping to 5-4 on the season.

The women's basketball team pulled off their seventh win.

The women’s basketball team took on the Hawks as well on Saturday, after winning an incredible game 51-50 over Central Penn earlier in the week. From the start of the game, Christendom picked up right where they left off. With Catherine Thomas leading the way, Christendom jumped out to a 33-16 lead by the end of the first half. The second half started off much the same way, with Christendom going off 40-17. Midway through the second half, the Hawks mounted a comeback, scoring 24 points to Christendom’s 27 in the second half. The damage was already done, however, with Christendom winning 60-40 — their seventh win of the season.

Thomas finished the game with 26 points and 21 rebounds, while Miranda Keller also finished strong with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

The women’s team will next play at home on Thursday, February 10, against Harford Communiuty College, while the men’s team will travel to McDaniel College on Wednesday, February 9.
