Christendom’s women’s basketball team continued their impressive second half of the season on Friday night, defeating Apprentice 70-59 for their fifth straight win and eleventh overall.
The 2022-23 season has been nothing but dominant for Christendom thus far, with the team cruising past opponent after opponent. That domination continued this past week, beginning with a Tuesday night home game against rival Trinity University. Christendom took control of the game from the jump, leading the game 45-22 at the half. Trinity mounted a comeback in the third quarter, before Christendom stole the game back in the fourth — quite literally, thanks to several key steals from Catherine Thomas. She led the team with 35 points and 19 rebounds, ultimately helping the team achieve a 73-46 victory over Trinity. Miranda Keller led the team with 22 rebounds, also scoring 22 points on the night.
On Friday night, Christendom again played in front of a packed St. Louis the Crusader Gymnasium, taking on Apprentice for the first time this season. The team played Christendom well in the first quarter, keeping the game close at 13-11 in favor of the Crusaders. Thomas and Keller again put the team on their back, however, pushing the team to a 55-42 lead going into the fourth quarter. Refusing to back down, Apprentice again put up a fight, outscoring Christendom 17-15 in the fourth — but it was not enough. Christendom ultimately won 70-59 for their fifth-straight win, with Thomas scoring 29 points and Keller 16.
The team will play for their twelfth-straight win against Penn State Mont Alto this coming Wednesday, February 1, at home.

The men’s team returned home this week for three tough matchups, first taking on McDaniel on Monday.

The next day, Christendom took on Mid-Atlantic Christian at home, with the Christendom faithful packing the stands to cheer on the team. Like the night before, Christendom kept the game close in the first half against the formidable Mid-Atlantic offense, finishing at 37-34. A tougher second half followed, with Mid-Atlantic managing to keep Christendom at bay and win the game 80-69. John Paul Vander Woude and Peter Ethridge both led the team in points with 15 each, while Heisler and John Kennedy also put up 12 and 11 points respectively.
