Christendom’s women’s soccer team kicked off their fall 2023 season with a decisive 5-2 win over Frederick Community College on Saturday, August 26, led by a 4-goal performance from Catherine Thomas. Meanwhile, the men’s soccer team came up short in a 3-0 loss to Regent, while the women’s volleyball team fell in both games of a tri-match.

Thomas, who earned Player of the Week honors from the USCAA last year for both soccer and basketball, picked up right where she left off last season, scoring the first goal of Christendom’s season at the 40:00 mark of the first half to tie up the game. Juliana Beckman scored the second Christendom goal of the game off an assist from Thomas to close the first half — and from there, it was all Thomas the rest of the way. In less than 20 minutes in the second half, Thomas put up three more goals off assists from Rachel Grande, Mary Sabados, and Virginia Stahl respectively.

Christendom ultimately won 5-2, putting them in the win column before their home opener against Patrick Henry on Wednesday, August 30.

The men’s soccer team traveled down to Regent University for their home opener, quickly falling behind Regent 3-0 in the first half. Christendom’s defense locked down the game from there, but the offense could not break through, resulting in the team’s first loss of the season. They will look to bounce back in another road game on Tuesday, August 29, taking on Washington Adventist.

Meanwhile, the women’s volleyball team, coming off a terrific 2022 campaign, looked to start off strong in a tri-match at Penn State York. The team ran into tough competition, however, falling 3-1 to Montgomery College before being shut out by Penn State York to wrap up their day. They will look to jump into the win column during the Penn State Beaver Tournament, being held September 1-2.
