
The women’s soccer team continued their early season domination this past week, picking up a 1-0 win over Patrick Henry on the road before winning big at home against Trinity on Saturday, defeating them 17-0. Meanwhile, on the road, the men’s rugby team picked up their first official win of the season 38-16 over Emory and Henry on Monday before falling against VMI on Saturday. The men’s soccer team tied Penn State Greater Allegheny 2-2 on the road, and the women’s volleyball team split a tri-match on the road.
After suffering their first loss of the season to Wilson College on Monday, the women’s soccer team got right back to their winning ways, shutting out Patrick Henry 1-0 on the road. Catherine Thomas, the USCAA league leader in goals scored, grabbed the one goal needed for Christendom, with goalie Maria Blank and the Christendom defense taking care of business from there.
On Saturday, the women’s soccer team returned home to take on Trinity and wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with Rachel Grande scoring the game’s first goal within a minute. From there, Christendom unleashed an offensive juggernaut on Trinity, scoring eight goals in total in the first half and nine in the second, winning 17-0. 13 different players scored in the match, with Theresa Luckey, Megan Lovar, Isabella Rodriguez, and Colleen Kosten all scoring two goals each. Grande, Gracie Russo, Mary Sabados, Christy Rodriguez, Juliana Beckman, Georgia Francis, Elisa Duca, Teresa Janaro, and Thomas also all scored in the game.
The team will next play Washington Adventist on Wednesday, September 20.
Meanwhile, on the road, the men’s rugby team officially started their season with conference play, following their rousing exhibition match win over Franciscan University in the annual Shield Match. The team took on Emory and Henry on the road, defeating the team handily 38-16. On Saturday, the team ran into a much tougher opponent, falling 36-12 against VMI. The team will next take on Radford at home on Saturday, September 23.
The men’s soccer team continued their comeback following their 0-2 start to the season, defeating Patrick Henry 8-0 on Tuesday for their third win of the season. Following a tough 5-1 loss to Penn State New Kensington on Wednesday, the team traveled to Penn State Greater Allegheny on Saturday, quickly falling behind 0-1 within the first minute of play. Michael Townsend managed to tie the game up 1-1 near the end of the first half before Penn State jumped ahead again near the start of the second half. Both teams continued to battle the rest of the way before Townsend scored again to tie the game with less than four minutes left. The game ultimately ended in a 2-2 tie, putting Christendom at a 3-3-1 record so far on the season.
They will next take on Central Penn at home on Tuesday, September 19.
Finally, on Saturday, the women’s volleyball team split a tri-match at Mid-Atlantic Christian University, defeating MACU 3-0 before falling in straight sets to Lenior Community College. The team now stands at 3-6 on the season and will next play Hagerstown on the road on Wednesday, September 20.
