Christendom’s men’s rugby team routed Washington & Lee at home on Saturday, defeating the conference rival 72-11. Meanwhile, the women’s volleyball team split a tri-match on the road, the women’s soccer team fell to Montgomery College, and men’s soccer lost to Johnson & Wales at home.
The men’s rugby team, after a strong start to the year, fell in a key conference matchup to VMI two weekends ago. The team looked to bounce back in their return to home field on Saturday, taking on another conference rival in Washington & Lee. Christendom immediately set the tone for the match, jumping up 46-3 in the first half. Multiple Crusaders scored, including Chris Santschi, Greg Kosten, and Frank Woltering, showing the depth of Christendom’s offense.
The second half was much the same story, with Washington & Lee making a little noise before Christendom jumped right on the board again, with Phil O’Herron, John Kennedy, and Dominic Di Falco all scoring. Christendom ultimately won 72-11 in a lopsided victory, with ten different players scoring tries for Christendom. The win sets the team up well for the final stretch of the season, including their penultimate regular season matchup against UVA on October 14.
Meanwhile, on the road, the women’s volleyball team looked to continue their momentum from last week’s dramatic, come-from-behind win against Frederick Community College. Traveling to Appalachian Bible, the team dropped their first match against Appalachian before quickly bouncing back in the second game against Crown College. The team took down Crown in three straight sets, with Nora Ross dominating with 22 points.
The women’s volleyball team now stands at 6-9 on the season, with their next set of games coming in a tri-match at Penn State Mont Alto on Saturday, October 7.
The women’s soccer team continued their road trip, taking on Montgomery College after back-to-back heartbreaking, 1-0 losses. The game started off strong for Christendom with a goal from Mary Sabados, but it was all Montgomery from there. The team ultimately defeated Christendom 5-1, pushing Christendom to a 6-4 record on the season. They will next play Washington Adventist on Wednesday, October 4, at home.
At home, the men’s soccer team fell 9-0 to Johnson & Wales. The team now stands at 4-5-1 on the season, with their next game coming on Tuesday, October 3, against Penn State Beaver.
