Christendom College has released a new free online class, “Approaching Difficult Questions in Church History,” aimed at addressing complex and often misunderstood aspects of Church history. The class, taught by history professor Dr. Christopher Lane, consists of several sessions available for anyone to take at any time.

In his new class, Lane leads students through a thought-provoking exploration that provides the knowledge necessary to understand complex periods in Church history. From the early Church’s Catholicity to the complex relationship between temporal authority and Christianity, from the motivations behind the Crusades to the corruption that plagued the Catholic Church in the late Middle Ages, the new class provides key insights that answer difficult questions, while also equipping students with deeper understanding so they can approach other challenging questions in Church history with confidence and clarity.

This class, available for free to anyone, consists of five lectures. It further deepens the offerings from Principles, providing Catholics everywhere with the tools they need to know and defend the Truth in today’s increasingly secular culture. Principles Classes offer students a taste of Christendom’s authentic Catholic education, all taught by professors who make an Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church — guaranteeing the commitment to the Truth that Catholics are hungry for today.

Christendom started Principles Classes in 2020 as an answer to the challenging society that Catholics find themselves in today, where many do not have the resources to fully know and live the Faith to the fullest. After launching with the “Christ: The Center of History” class from College President Dr. Timothy O’Donnell, the college expanded the free Principles classes offerings to include classes in literature, philosophy, and political thought. Upper-level classes on the history of Islam and apologetics were also released for Principles Society Patrons, providing deeper looks into critical topics for Catholics today.

All of these offerings from Principles come in addition to regular Principles Essays from some of today’s greatest thinkers and free monthly Live Lectures from Christendom faculty on a variety of topics.
