Make it nine straight. Christendom’s women’s soccer team rolled over Manor College 9-0 this past weekend, extending their unprecedented win streak to nine with only four games left in the season. They were not alone in the winner’s circle this past weekend, with the men’s rugby team also picking up their second straight with a 29-0 shutout of Washington & Lee.
The women’s soccer team has proven to be the USCAA’s most dominant team over the past five weeks, thanks to an overwhelming offense and a staunch defense. After taking down Penn State Mont Alto 4-0 on Thursday, the team hosted Manor College for a Homecoming Weekend matchup in front of a roaring Crusader crowd.
After the first whistle, it was all Crusaders. Juliana Taylor wasted no time, netting two goals in the first four minutes. Miranda Keller quickly followed suit with two goals of her own, and Mary Sabados added to the scoring spree with another pair. Ava Hudson chipped in with an unassisted goal, and Taylor completed her hat trick before halftime, putting Christendom up 8-0. Hudson added the final blow, securing the 9-0 shutout and marking the team’s fifth consecutive clean sheet.
The Crusaders have outscored opponents 65-3 over this dominant stretch and will look to bring the streak to 10 when they take on Hagerstown Community College on Tuesday, October 8.
Men’s Rugby
Following their 30-24 win over Hampden-Sydney last weekend, Christendom’s rugby team looked to keep their momentum going against Washington & Lee on Saturday on the road. Chris Santschi proved to be the man of the match, scoring first to get Christendom on the board. He would score two more times over the course of the game — including on a penalty try. Tries from Jude Burkett and Fionn Bauer further padded the score for the Crusaders, with the team’s defense completely shutting down Washington & Lee. The team ultimately won 29-0 for their second win of the season.
The team will next host VMI at home on Saturday, October 12.
Men’s Soccer
The men’s soccer team, looking to bounce back after a tough 2-1 loss to Manor College on Saturday, welcomed Patrick Henry for a home game on Monday night. Francis Gulick got Christendom on the board first on an assist from Niall Maguire, with Sean Corcoran scoring again for the team just seven minutes later. Maguire scored a goal of his own to close out the first half, with that 3-0 lead proving to be enough. Christendom won their fifth game of the season, evening their record at 5-5-1.
The team will next take on Penn State Mont Alto at home on Wednesday, October 9.
Men’s & Women’s Cross Country
Up at Penn State Fayette, the men’s and women’s cross-country teams competed in their fourth meet of the season, taking Second Overall in the men’s and women’s meets. Alexander Girata led the way for Christendom, finishing in first place in the men’s meet with a time of 30:35 in the 8k race.
In the Women’s 6k race, three Crusaders finished in the Top-10 overall: Mary Noble, taking third overall with a time of 27:58; Elizabeth Kolesar, finishing fourth overall with a time of 29:54; and Jazdia Hamm finishing 8th overall with a time of 33:05.
The team will next compete in the Aubrey Shenk Invitational on Saturday, October 19.
