Christendom College will host a special conversation between philosophy professor Dr. Daniel McInerny and College President George A. Harne, Ph.D., on the topic “What is Art, and Why Does It Matter?” The event, scheduled for March 24 in Old Chapel Hall, is part of the college’s Major Speakers program, which enriches the student body’s cultural, intellectual, and spiritual life beyond the classroom.
Dr. McInerny is a passionate speaker and writer on art and beauty, as evidenced in his recent book, Beauty and Imitation: A Philosophical Reflection on the Arts. When he is not teaching and mentoring his students, McInerny has been writing fiction, nonfiction, drama, and screenplays for years, including his adult fiction novel The Good Death of Kate Montclair, and his Kingdom of Patria series for middle-grade readers (now available on Amazon).
At this event, McInerny and Harne will explore the role of art and beauty in daily life and why they remain essential, offering a fresh, dynamic format to the college’s Major Speakers program. Their discussion follows the success of their recent conversation on the premiere episode of Christendom Conversations, a new podcast from Harne and Christendom College.

The Major Speakers Program is an important aspect of Christendom College’s academic life, offering the opportunity for cultural, intellectual, and spiritual enrichment beyond the classroom. The speaker series allows students to gain greater insight into important issues and to interact with leaders in the Church and in society. Major Speaker events are closed to the Christendom community, but talks are recorded and will be available after the event.
Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend this exciting and enriching event, which is also open to the public. To view or listen to previous Major Speaker events and other lectures, visit Christendom’s Podcast Network.
