Christendom College President George A. Harne, Ph.D., has released a new episode of the Christendom Conversations podcast, featuring a compelling conversation with poet and critic James Matthew Wilson. Together, they explore the craft of poetry and the essential role of art and literature in shaping the human experience.
Wilson serves as the Cullen Foundation Chair in English Literature and founding director of the MFA program in Creative Writing at the University of Saint Thomas. The author of fourteen books, including Saint Thomas and the Forbidden Birds, his works have received accolades such as the Hiett Prize, Parnassus Prize, and Catholic Media Award for poetry. He is also poet-in-residence of the Benedict XVI Institute, scholar-in-residence at Aquinas College, and poetry editor of Modern Age. Educated at Michigan, Massachusetts, and Notre Dame, Wilson is a leading voice in Catholic literature and education.
In his conversation with Dr. Harne, Wilson reflects on his intellectual journey, considers the relationship of beauty and truth, explores human suffering through literature, and shares readings of his acclaimed poetry.
Wilson also recently joined Christendom for its “Beauty and Truth” summer conference in June, offering a talk titled, “Man is Born to Behold Beauty.”
This marks the eighth episode of Christendom Conversations, following August’s episode featuring Dale Ahlquist, who discussed the enduring wisdom of G.K. Chesterton, the role of beauty in education, and Chesterton’s profound insights into human nature and the Catholic imagination.
Christendom Conversations is part of Christendom College’s expanding podcast network, which offers listeners and viewers rich engagement with the Catholic intellectual tradition. Through in-depth interviews with Catholic scholars and cultural leaders, the podcast explores timeless questions and enduring truths. New episodes are released monthly.
