Christendom College will suspend classes and close administrative offices on Friday, January 23, 2026, to allow its community to attend the 53rd annual March for Life in Washington, D.C.

The college will provide free transportation for students, faculty, and staff, chartering buses to the nation’s capital. Participants — including College President George A. Harne, Ph.D. — will join thousands of others in marching from the National Mall to the Supreme Court, praying the rosary, singing hymns, and publicly affirming their commitment to the defense of human life.

Christendom has participated in every March for Life since its founding in 1977 and has served as an official sponsor of the event. The college has even led the march five times — more than any other college — including in January 2022, just months before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

In addition to the national march, the college community participates annually in the Virginia March for Life, rallying with thousands in Richmond to defend the rights of the unborn.

Christendom students have long taken an active role in the pro-life movement through campus organizations such as Shield of Roses, the college’s pro-life club founded in 1977. For nearly five decades, members of Shield of Roses have traveled early Saturday mornings to a nearby abortion clinic to pray for an end to abortion. Their efforts have helped lead to the closure of two clinics over the years, earning the praise of Bishop Michael Burbidge of the Diocese of Arlington, who has joined the group on several occasions.

Christendom alumni also remain active in the pro-life movement, serving in pregnancy resource centers and advocating for legal protections for the unborn at the local and national levels.
