Defending National Champions Christendom College will begin this fall 15s season with the #1 ranking from National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) for the second straight season, as announced by the organization today. Ranked above New Mexico Tech, College of the Holy Cross, and the Catholic University of America in their division, Christendom will look to repeat their immense success from last year as they pursue another National Championship title.
Christendom’s second-straight #1 ranking is no small feat, with the team placing first out of 230 clubs representing 26 conferences in the Small College division, which has expanded after last season.
The team began their 2021-22 season under the same circumstances, earning the #1 ranking from NCR and keeping that ranking all the way to the final game of the season, when they defeated New Mexico Tech to win the 2021 National Collegiate Rugby Cohen Cup Championship in Houston. They will look to do even better this season, beginning with a home matchup against Christopher Newport University on September 10 and ending with an away game against the Virginia Military Institute on October 29.
The announcement comes after Christendom sent their rugby 7s team to New Orleans for their fifth-straight trip to the Collegiate Rugby Championship this past Memorial Day Weekend, where they placed second to New Mexico Tech. The team is coming off their best season in program history, which saw a 15s National Championship Title, a 7s National Championship Runner-Up, and numerous individual awards, including an MVP award, an All-State Academic award, and multiple Scholastic All-American awards.
