How Can I Keep Myself & Campus Healthy?
- Get sufficient rest, time outdoors, healthy food, and vitamins.
- Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze.
- Wash your hand regularly with soap and warm water, especially before meals.
- Avoid sharing water bottles, silverware, drinks, etc. with others.
- Stay home if you are sick. Email your professors and the nurse to say you won’t be in class.
- Monitor yourself regularly for signs of COVID—a fever of 100.4 or higher, loss of taste or smell, unexplained fatigue or muscle aches, or respiratory problems.
- While not required, students are welcome to wear face coverings and practice social distancing.
When Should I See the Nurse about COVID-19?
- If you have a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher
- If you lose your sense of taste or smell
- If you have respiratory symptoms, such as a cough
- If you have unexplained fatigue or muscle aches
- If you have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID -19
The campus Family Nurse Practitioner is available in her office in the Lower Level of the Commons M-F from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. After hours, she can be reached at (540) 268-0699).
What Happens If I Test Positive for COVID-19?
- If you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 or if the nurse believes you should be tested, the College will provide transportation and cover the cost for rapid-results testing at an area clinic.
- On-campus students who test positive will be isolated in an assigned campus house for ten days.
- Students in isolation will be provided with meals from the Commons.
- Students in isolation will have access to the internet, course materials, and recorded lectures posted online while in isolation. Students in isolation will not incur class absences.
- Off-campus students who test positive will ask to isolate at home for ten days. They will also have access to online resources and recorded lectures.
What Other Changes Has the College Made for Spring 2021?
- To reduce the number of people eating in the Commons at once, students will be assigned to one of two designated lunchtimes. Weekend hours for brunch have been extended.
- There will be daily Mass at 7:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 4:45 p.m. to reduce the number of people at each Mass. Sundays Mass will be at 8:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 8:00 p.m.
- Masses are closed to everyone except students, faculty, and staff to ensure they have access to Mass while seating is reduced in the Chapel.
- Most classrooms will only be filled to 2/3 capacity of the normal seating.
- Students are not allowed to host overnight visitors in the residence halls.
- Outside guests (non-faculty/student/staff) are not permitted at College events.
